♥ Chocolate Mint Love Butter: Homemade Personal Lubricant Recipe – This is great!

♥ Health Benefits of Dates – I ADORE dates (especially medjool dates)!  Learn all the amazing health benefits of these sweet little gems.  Remember to eat in moderation though.  I eat 1 – 3 a day (mostly in smoothies and tonics).

♥ The Best and Worse: Protein and Nutrition Bars – Awesome article on what protein/energy bars are out on the market and what people might think are considered “good”, “healthy”,”clean”, etc.  You would be surprised once reading the ingredients.  Most are junk!!  If interested, check out my Raw Chocolate Protein Energy Bars.  It is what I make for my family and friends.  Scott and I eat them weekly.

Ghee in my Coffee?–   MonicaB has a great video showing why and how to add ghee to your coffee – HELLO Vata’s and Pitta’s.  I love adding ghee to my herbal tonics.  Learn more about ghee here.  Ghee ROCKS!!!  I think I prefer it over coconut oil.  Oh, I just said that out loud. I utilize both in my house and on my body.

♥ Great ExpectationsA topic that many of us can relate to.  Thank you Kimberley for sharing your thoughts and honesty.  By saying NO to things that don’t resonate with you, stretch you beyond measure, out of habit, etc. is the most self nurturing act of love.

♥ The Covert Coffee Enema – I know I have talked about enemas here on the blog before and I especially like coffee enemas.  They are quite amazing.  Lauren at The Holy Kale did a smashing post on this “sshhh” topic.  This subject really needs more exposure to the masses who would benefit highly by it.  I know I have and still do when needed.

♥ Coconut Vanilla Chia Superfood Pudding + How to Get Started With Superfoods – Fantastic superfood article AND recipe by my girl, Linda Wagner!  I am a huge superfood fan too. I don’t go a day without using at least one in a meal.  Morning smoothies always have cacao nibs and fresh local bee pollen on top.   My daily herbal tonics always have hemp seeds in it.  Superfoods are nutrient dense and a little goes a long way on the full spectrum of health.  Check out my Energizing Strawberry Cream Chia Pudding.  Thanks for this informative post, Linda!

♥ Create Good Feng Shui in Your Kitchen – I apply fen shui in my house but especially in the kitchen. It really does make a difference!

♥ The Number One Ingredient to Avoid – Do you know what it is?  I thought I did and I was wrong.  The answer is one that I have dealt with in the past.  Don’t let it sabotage your healthy lifestyle.  It is supposed to be fun, intriguing, joyous and personal.

♥ Spirulina Sunflower Seed Pate/Spread – This simple pate/spread from The Wellness Warrior site is AMAZING!  I just made it and I am hooked.  I could sit and eat the whole thing – but I wouldn’t. Healthy ingredients packed with some superfoods – my kind of recipe.  Give it a go – you will be very pleased.

Almonds are a unique package of nutrients – a great source of highly absorbable protein (6 grams per ounce) along with dietary fiber, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, iron and vitamin E.

Coconut Flakes are rich in lauric acid, which is known for being antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal, as well as boosting the immune system.   It’s also a great source of healthy fats.

Walnuts pack a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids! They are rich in fiber, B vitamins, magnesium, and antioxidants such as Vitamin E.  Walnuts are one of the best plant sources of protein!

Raw Cacao powder (Navitas Naturals) is one of the richest sources of immune-boosting antioxidants found in nature. It provides important minerals including magnesium and iron. Raw Cacao is also a concentrated form of healthy dietary fiber. Dandy Blend™  is a delicious herbal beverage with the taste, body, and texture of coffee. Dandelion root is what makes Dandy Blend unique as it contains over 50 trace minerals. Certified gluten-free due to a special extraction process.

Sunwarrior™ Blend Protein Powder is a unique, raw, plant-based protein with a complete amino acid profile exceptionally high in Arginine, Lysine, Leucine, and branched chain amino acids.  Warrior Blend is an easily digestible, nutrient filled superfood perfect for anyone who wants to amplify their health and fitness levels. Best of all, it tastes phenomenal.

Lime Juice is valued for culinary purposes as a preservative and flavoring, as well as for its nutritional value.  A good source of vitamin C and Dietary fiber, it helps facilitate digestion and may prevent constipation.

Coconut oil is about 50 percent lauric acid, a rare medium-chain fatty acid that supports healthy metabolism and is now being studied for its anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial health-protecting properties.

Maca (Navitas Naturals) Due to its extremely rich nutritional value, this root not only aids recovery but also promotes rapid healing and eliminates different kinds of stress related problems.  Peruvians believe that even a small amount of maca can sustain performance and energy for hours.

Happy Hormone Tonic

Happy Hormone Tonic

Kibby’s Happy Hormone Tonic

If you read my post from yesterday How I Am Balancing My Hormones – Naturally (if not, go do so, please), You’ll see why I concocted this tonic.   Let me tell you, it is FANTASTIC and has become one of my favorites.  The taste is a bit different – it is rich, spicy, creamy, with a mocha butterscotch taste.  It’s really hard to describe all that is going on with it, but my taste buds DANCE to it.  In turn, my hormones are happy!!  Hence the name!  🙂

Hormone imbalance can occur at any age (20’s and up) – men and women.  Let me shed a little light on an Ayurvedic herb that I have been taking for about a month now.  It is called Triphala.  Literally meaning “three fruits”, Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulation consisting of three fruits native to the Indian subcontinent: Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki.  Triphala contains five of the six tastes recognized in Ayurveda (sweet, sour, bitter, pungent and astringent), only missing the salty taste.  Because of its high nutritional value, Triphala uniquely cleanses and detoxifies at the deepest organic levels without depleting the body’s reserves.

  • Amalaki (emblica officinalis), commonly known as Indian gooseberry or amla, is considered one of the best rejuvenating herbs in Ayurveda. It’s a strong natural antioxidant containing 20 times more vitamin C than orange juice. In India, amalaki is known as the “nurse herb” because it supports the liver,  strengthens the immune system and cools the body, balancing the Pitta dosha.
  • Haritaki (terminalia chebula) has the strongest laxative powers of the three fruits contained in triphala. In Tibet, haritaki is so highly revered that in their sacred paintings, it’s often depicted in the extended palm of the medicine Buddha. Is known for its “scraping” effect, which removes toxins and helps maintain healthy levels of weight.   The herb also has astringent properties and balances Vata.
  • Bibhitaki (terminalia belerica) is an excellent rejuvenative with both laxative and astringent properties. It eliminates excess mucous in the body, balancing the Kapha dosha. In addition, bibhitaki is a powerful treatment for a variety of lung conditions, including bronchitis and asthma. (source)

Maca is a wonderful hormone balancer.  It is important to remember that MACA does not itself contain any hormones, but its action on the body jolts the pituitary gland into producing the precursor hormones which ultimately end up raising estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels, as well as helping to balance the adrenal glands, the thyroid and the pancreas. This occurs naturally while increasing energy. (source)

Ashwagandha, also known as Withania somnifera, is an herbal remedy that may be effective in treating your hormone imbalance. According to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, ashwagandha is a popular Ayurvedic herb used to help treat stress, fatigue, pain and diabetes. Ashwagandha, a member of the nightshade family, has also been used to help restore your hormone balance, increase your energy and improve your health and longevity. The root of the plant is used medicinally. Ashwagandha has a bitter and earthy taste. Tilgner says that ashwagandha is an adaptogen that is best suited to individuals whose hormone levels are altered due to stress or chronic agitation. (source)

Shilajit contains 85+ minerals in ionic form, Vitamins, Fulvic acid and very important phytonutrients. The fulvic acid in shilajit is in it’s most natural and purest form. Fulvic acid is required to dilate the cell walls and transport the minerals deep into the cells. No amount of mineral supplements will be of any use unless they are transported into the cells. Minerals also act as catalysts in the assimilation of vitamins. Insufficient supply of minerals will also mean Vitamin deficiency. Fulvic acid alone can transport the minerals through the thick cell walls. Shilajit has 85+ minerals apart from fulvic acid and can instantly supply them to the cells. It can effectively prolong cell life and keep it healthy for a very long time. No wonder the Indian Yogis called it as Amrita or The Elixir Of Life.  Here are some other benefits:

Liver function Enhancing, Cholesterol & Blood pressure reducing properties : It is a very effective liver tonic. It literally helps rebuild liver tissues. It has been proved to reduce cholesterol levels, serum tryglycerides and serum phospholipids in liver. By maintaining the liver functions, It helps body perform various functions attributed to liver like digestion metabolism etc at an optimum level. It contains Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA). This lowers blood cholesterol levels.  Thus it effectively reduces cholesterol levels both in liver and blood. Fulvic acid is known to reduce sodium levels in the blood thereby contributing to a reduction in blood pressure. (sourceRead more about it here and  here.   Shilajit is truly a SUPERFOOD.

So, let me share with you my little brew.

Kibby’s Happy Hormone Tonic (serves 1)

  • 1  1/2 cups quick Homemade Almond Milk
  • 1  1/2 to 2 TB. Dandy Blend
  • 1 tsp. Maca
  • 1 tsp. Ashwaganda
  • 1/2 tsp. Triphala
  • Dates – 2 Medjool or 4 Deglet Noor
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of cayenne – to taste
  • Vanilla Stevia – NuNaturals – 1/2 dropperful
  • Reishi powder – 1/8 tsp. or 1 capsule (broken open) (optional) – I add this to the daytime brews
  • Shilajit (optional) – a small pinch (this is powerful stuff)

Blend everything in a high speed blender ( I use a Vitamix) till smooth and creamy.   Taste and tweak to your liking.  Transfer liquids (it will be THICK) into a saucepan and gently heat up on LOW/ MEDIUM heat.  Stir consistently (it will burn easily if not attended to) for about 2 or so minutes to desired temperature.

Pour into mug and savor this luscious drink sending good thoughts/energy throughout your body knowing this tonic is balancing your entire system (hormones especially) at ANY age.

Even Scott loves drinking this brew. He says it is so tasty and creamy with a hint of “kick”. Even men need hormone balancing. ;)

WEEKEND TREATS: Banana Powder Date Paste AND Cinnamon Date Paste

WEEKEND TREATS: Banana Powder Date Paste AND Cinnamon Date Paste

Are  you looking for a good date this weekend?  Well, look no further for I’ve got TWO amazing ones for you today!   (I know it’s cheesy, but I had to)  🙂

This simple and DIVINE recipe has the consistency similar to a caramel dip,but none of  the refined sugar and processed ingredients.   It is absolutely perfect for spreading, dipping and snacking on right out of the jar.  Also great for using in raw truffles in place of the sweetener and binder ingredient.  It is great in hot oatmeal or spread on gluten-free pancakes or toast.  I am getting hungry thinking of all the possibilities to use this with.

I received this LOVELY product from Mum’s Original awhile back and couldn’t figure out anything (great in smoothies and avocado pudding) SPECIAL for it until just now. Let me introduce to you – BANANA POWDER.  She is creamy, sweet and healthy.   This ingredient is going to get a lot more action in my kitchen now.  You just wait and see.  🙂

From Mum’s Original website:  Mum’s Original Banana Powder is produced from a delicious red banana variety, sweeter and heartier in flavor, grown to their fullest potential with the only help of natural sunshine. Our careful dehydrating and milling process ensures that our Banana Powder maintains its dense nutritional composition that includes high fiber content to gently cleanse your digestive system. Pop into a daily smoothie for a great source of natural energy, help to decrease blood pressure, and relax your muscles after a work out.

This banana powder is very reminiscent of lucuma powder to me.  It is powdery fine, lends a creamy texture and smoothness to recipes and is deliciously sweet.  You could use a fresh banana in the recipe below, but it wouldn’t last very long in refrigerator due to banana going gooey and oxidizing – the paste will change on you quickly – not as sustainable.  The banana powder allows for a fresh taste, consistency and texture.   I REALLY like it!

Banana Powder Date Paste/ Spread:

  • 30 pitted dates – I used Deglet Noor dates (cheaper).    If you use Medjool dates, you can probably use less – maybe 15 (they are bigger in size).
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 -3 TB. Banana Powder

Cinnamon Date Paste/ Spread:

  • 30 pitted dates – I used Deglet Noor dates (cheaper).    If you use Medjool dates, you can probably use less – maybe 15 (they are bigger in size).
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 TB. cinnamon

1. Chop your dates.  (A couple of slices with the knife – not too small)
2. Add dates & water to food processor or blender (I use a Vitamix) and let soak for an hour (they will soak the water up and expand in size).  Plump you little beauties! 🙂
3. Blend until smooth.  In a food processor you may have to stop and scrape down sides a few times.
4. Mix in banana powder OR cinnamon (whichever recipe you are doing) and spoon into a jar for storage (or a few in your mouth for tasting).  Right?!  You have to check the goods before serving or storing. 🙂

Other Variations:

Raw cacao powder, mesquite powder, carob powder, Acai powder (Oh my!)  – TASTY and Good for you! 🙂

OK!  I just finished putting a heaping TB. of the banana powder date paste into my morning oatmeal and the same amount of the cinnamon date paste into Scott’s oatmeal and HOLY MOLY!  They are both amazing!  You’ve got to try these recipes!

I’ve got some GREAT posts lined up for next week.  See you then!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekend Treats – Choco Orange Jaffacino!

Weekend Treats – Choco Orange Jaffacino!

Jaffacino – Chocolate Orange Combo. of Heaven!

This is such an EASY and DELICIOUS treat that you can make in minutes.  I found this on Princess Raw’s Facebook page.  I was ready for a small meal and decided that this would be it.  It took just a few minutes to blend and pour into glasses.  I took Scott’s glass to him and his eyes lite up when he saw it.  We were both moaning in delight over the taste!  Oh, man!  It sure did deliver HEAVEN!

Into a high speed blender (I use a Vitamix) or a food processor goes:

  • 4 frozen bananas
  • 3 Medjool dates (pitted)
  • 1 tsp. orange zest (more for garnishing)
  • 1 – 2 TB. Carob powder or cacao powder (more for garnishing)
  • pinch of sea salt – to bring out flavors

Blend or process till smooth and creamy!  That’s it!  Serve it up and top with a sprinkling of carob powder, orange zest, or any other toppings you like. I chose carob powder because I didn’t want the stimulation I sometimes get with raw cacao powder.  The carob powder was perfect with this!

I love the creaminess of this treat and the little pieces of date you come across periodically that lend a nice texture and of course, sweetness.  This is a fabulous combination and hope you try it out.  It is totally worth it!!
